BIOGRAPHY

A native of Seoul, Korea, Gi Lee came to the United States in 2005 to study under Ricardo Morales, Principal Clarinetist of the Philadelphia Orchestra.

Gi Lee Graduated from the Korea National University of Arts (K-Arts) and received his Master of Music from Boyer College of Music and Dance, Temple University.

 

Gi Lee was a member of Symphony in C (formerly Haddonfield Symphony) and has been regularly performing with the Philadelphia Orchestra as a substitute member since 2006 and was acting second clarinet from 2013-2016. Gi Lee performed with the orchestra during Asia tour, European tour, Saratoga Music Festival, and Bravo Music Festival which was held in Vail, Colorado. In addition, he was invited as principal clarinet to the Tongyeong Music Festival held in South Korea and Fundación Sinfonía in Dominica Republic in 2017. He has joined the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington D.C as second clarinet for 2017-2018 season. He currently plays in Metropolitan Opera Orchestra in New York as an associate clarinetist.

As a chamber musician, he has been invited to perform with Dolce Suono Ensemble and Fine Art Music Company in Philadelphia, Jupiter Chamber Players in New York,  and a founding member of Whitman Winds in Collingswood, New Jersey.

Lee serves as a faculty member of the Philadelphia International Music Festival and has given masterclasses and coached chamber music in Luzerne Music Festival in New York and Peabody Institute of John Hopkins University.  With his passion in education especially for young students, Lee has a private studio in Pennington, NJ and his students have been accepted to the Curtis Institute of Music, the Juilliard School, and National Youth Orchestra of the United States.  Gi Lee is currently an artist-in-residence and adjunct faculty of Boyer College of Music and Dance, Temple University.
